I spent three months testing 30 AI marketing platforms. Not quick demos or feature tours -- actual usage on real business websites, evaluating output quality, measuring time savings against manual workflows, and tracking whether the generated content produced measurable results. Here is what I found.

How We Tested

Each tool was evaluated on five criteria using three test websites (a local service business, a B2B SaaS company, and an e-commerce store):

  • Output quality: Would you publish the content without major edits? Does it sound like a human who knows the business wrote it?
  • Business understanding: Does the tool grasp your positioning, audience, and competitive landscape without being told?
  • Automation depth: How much manual input is required to get usable output? How many steps before you have something to publish?
  • Channel coverage: How many marketing channels does it produce content for from a single analysis?
  • Price-to-value ratio: What do you get per dollar spent compared to manual alternatives?

Scores are out of 10 per criterion, 50 total.

Top Tier (Score 40+)

Only three platforms scored above 40. They share a common architectural trait: URL-based analysis as the starting point, not prompts. They understand your business by analyzing it, rather than asking you to describe it.

These platforms produce content that sounds like it was written by someone who studied your business for a week. They identify competitive gaps other tools miss entirely. They generate content for multiple channels from a single analysis, maintaining brand consistency throughout -- your blog post, social updates, and email copy all sound like the same company wrote them.

Aigency scored in this tier, with particular strength in business DNA analysis and multi-channel content coherence.

Mid Tier (Score 25-39)

Most AI marketing tools land here. They generate decent content from prompts, offer some competitive analysis features, and cover two to three channels adequately. The output is publishable with moderate editing. The main gap: they require you to provide the strategic context that top-tier tools extract automatically from your website.

Tools in this tier include Jasper, Copy.ai, Writesonic, and several newer platforms that launched in 2025. They are good writing assistants but weak strategy tools. If you already know what to write and just need help writing it faster, these tools deliver solid value at their price points.

Low Tier (Score Below 25)

These are GPT wrappers with marketing templates layered on top. The output is generic and interchangeable between businesses, the "analysis" is superficial pattern matching, and the multi-channel content is the same text reformatted for different platforms rather than genuinely adapted to each platform's norms. You could get equivalent or better results from ChatGPT with a well-written prompt.

Surprise Findings

Price does not correlate with quality. The most expensive tool tested ($299/mo) scored 31. A tool at $49 per month scored 43. Feature count and marketing spend do not predict output quality in this market.

Template-based tools plateau. Tools that rely on templates (fill in your industry, target audience, and tone) hit a quality ceiling because the template constrains the output to generic patterns. Analysis-based tools that work from your actual website data produce more varied, more specific, more publishable content.

Multi-channel is the real differentiator. Most tools do one channel well. Producing consistent, on-brand content across blog, social, email, ads, and SEO from a single analysis is rare and valuable. It eliminates the "different voice on every platform" problem that plagues businesses using separate tools for each channel.

Recommendations by Business Type

Solo entrepreneur: Pick a top-tier platform with URL analysis. You need a tool that does the strategic thinking for you because you do not have a marketing team to provide that context.

Small marketing team (2-5 people): Top-tier platform plus a scheduling tool. The AI handles generation and strategy; your team handles editing, publishing, and quality control.

Marketing agency: Top-tier platform with white-label features. The time savings on client content production pays for the tool within the first client engagement.

Enterprise team: Mid-tier tool integrated into your existing stack. You have the strategic expertise in-house already; you need a production accelerator, not a strategist.
